For drivers of larger vehicles, such as 4×4s that position you further away from the windscreen, the RAC Sat Nav 220 is a perfect match. Its older flip out aerial design doesn’t stop it from performing well and it’s further enhanced by the inclusion of the excellent Fuzzy search system.
The mid-range Route 66 Chicago 8000 model, with its fancy-free design, contains full European maps and a superb ‘Fuzzy’ search engine to locate destinations faster. The lack of TMC option may be a problem for the purists but you can buy this as an optional extra or go for one of the other Chicago models in the series
The RAC Sat Nav 220 boasts a large touchscreen 127mm (5-inch) widescreen display with seamless European maps over Route 66’s interface. Its girth is also joined by an equally impressive loudspeaker and a supplied Traffic Message Channel (TMC) aerial.
Inputting destinations or points of interest (POI) is made easier thanks to the Fuzzy search system. Simply enter parts of a POI/address — for example, ‘rest lond’ — and the unit will search/display the logical results. It’s just a pity you don’t have a Qwerty keyboard to complement this excellent feature.
If helping you recover your car by the motorway wasn’t enough, RAC have released their very own line of Sat Nav GPS units so you can safely get to your destination without any hicups.
Due to their highly successful service in both road side recovery and insurance, RAC have teamed up with the BEST to produce such a high qaulity product which is know as the RAC 200. Packed to the brim with all the latest features which can be found in the popular TomTom units, this series is well ahead.
RAC have set out to provide one of the largest sat-nav devices on the market and they have succeeded hands down. It weighs a hefty amount and its AV-IN function could be classed as overkill, but it’s a macho product with a display perfectly suited to larger vehicles.
