Mio Digi Walker H610
Mio turns the ho-hum navigator into a fun lifestyle device. We were impressed by how attractive the results were, and by how many features the developers managed to fit in a small space. Besides offering turn-by-turn GPS, the DigiWalker H610 offers a music, video, and photo player, a suite of travel apps, a contact database, and several fun games. And at 3.9 ounces and only 0.7 inches thick, this navigator makes other GPS units seem needlessly bulky by comparison.
Mio’s new Digiwalker H610, a handheld portable GPS and entertainment system, proves the old maxim that good things do indeed come in small packages. An ultraportable GPS, the device includes a wealth of travel tools, games, and multimedia players for music, photos, and videos. Oh, and yes, it’s also great for navigation.
The good: The Mio H610 features an ultraportable design that makes it a great navigation aid while on foot or on a bicycle. It comes preloaded with maps, travel tools, games, and a multimedia player.
The bad: The smaller screen doesn’t make it ideal for in-car use, and the H610 doesn’t support text-to-speech functionality.
The bottom line: Though not ideal for the car, the ultraportable Mio H610 is an accurate navigator and a decent multimedia player for use on foot.
The H610 is a delightfully compact device that combines the latest satellite navigation technology with a photo viewer, games, MP3 and video player.
With the H610, you can find your way on foot around the old town in Barcelona as easily as you would in your car on a motorway in France.
The Mio H610 is equipped with a 20-channel SiRFstarIII GPS receiver and comes preloaded with TeleAtlas maps of the North America, so it’s ready to navigate right out of the box. As with most navigation systems today, you can enter your destination by address, a point on the map, a point of interest (POI), or from your Favorites list.
You can instruct the H610 to calculate directions by the fastest, the shortest, or the most economical route as well as tell it to avoid highways, toll roads, and so forth. The unit also features a comprehensive POI database with all the major attractions and more specific categories.
