GPS Review: Magellan Customer service is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. They offer a free 30 day map update since all of their products ship with out of date maps. This would be a good thing except it is in the fine print of their products and their customer support email address that their website list is the wrong address.
I had to get through to their customer service by posting a bad review on their website. By the time they responded my unit was beyond the 30 day limit and they refused to give me the update. This is a bad business practice. Garmin has a 60 day guarantee which is posted directly on their website in plain view.
Magellan RF980897-01 Refurbished Roadmate 2200T GPS Review: I bought this unit as a refurb when I saw it had the features I wanted and at a rock-bottom price since it was a refurb. I had not had any problems with other refurbished electronics I purchased in the past so I did not hesitate to order. I found that the unit Amazon sent me was impeccable, no blemishes, scratches or any other cosmetic defects (unlike some of the other refurbs I’ve bought). The unit worked flawlessly. One thing I like is that it has features such as speech-to-text and mp3 and picture viewer features that the more expensive models only have.
Also the unit can be upgraded to include hiking and marine gps functions. The interface is a bit dated but the maps are accurate (Navteq, 2006). For those who want to spend a little more money, you can buy this unit and then upgrade to a recent map and interface update that Magellan has just released for this unit. For a limited time they are offering a free topographic map, hiking, and marine gps functionality for free when you purchase the update. The update makes the interface look like the maestro line’s interface. All-in-all a wonderful unit that I had no problems with.

Magellan RF980897-01 Refurbished Roadmate 2200T GPS Review: Ordered this with a bit of trepidation, as it was listed as refurbished. However, when it arrived it was clear that it was in new packaging, etc. so it must have been a return by someone who never opened it. GPS works very well, although there are a few false roads which have appeared, but that is less the GPS and moreso the system from which it feeds in the sky. Overall this is a fantastic value and it deserves a 5 star review.
Magellan RF980897-01 Refurbished Roadmate 2200T GPS Review: I purchased the Magellan Roadmate 2200T because I do a lot of traveling and plan to do more once I retire next year. The Magellan performed well in cities when you need to get to a specific address or location but it did poorly on the open road. It kept instructing me to get off highways I have driven before and know that the route I am taking is both the shortest and the fastest way between two cities. There were also a few addresses it did not let me enter, I assume it was because it is not in it’s database. The software that comes with the unit is almost useless, it looks like 1990 vintage and the Magellan website is weak when compared to other manufacturers of similar equipment.
