The TomTom Go 720 will record your voice and give you the answers to your vocal navigation queries while you’re on the road. You’ll be able to ask your GPS to calculate the shortest or quickest itinerary between points A and B, and you can even confirm or cancel a request, all with your own voice. This GPS allows you to save step-by-step instructions of your itinerary, and you can choose between pre-recorded voices, the voice of a family member or your own voice to guide you as you travel.
I had the opportunity to this GPS to the ultimate test this week. We took a road trip from Dallas, Texas to Grand Canyon with no map or compass and relying only the TomTom 720. The GPS passed with flying colors!
MAPS: The map on the unit is very accurate, from the exists name and number to the road diagram.
Turn by Turn: I find the turn by turn instructions to be both accurate and helpful. The unit will tell you turn a mile or so in advance and will start counting down until you make the turn. I was very impress that when I am at the cross street, the unit will tell me to turn now. We went off course several times and the unit will automatically recalculate the route so you are back on track! What I really love about this unit is you can ask it to give you an alternative route. The route I normally take to use Grand Canyon is about 20 hours. The unit created a route that was 3 hours less!
POI: We had a chance to use the POI option during the road trip to find Walmart and a casino. Both we found with no problems what so ever. I would never buy a map again!
Touch Screen: I like the touch screen feature, it is fast. The unit itself has only one button, the “on/off†button. There are actually three main menus on the touch screen main navigation display. If you touch the big screen you will go to the navigation options to select/ create routes. If you touch the lower right portion of the main display it will take you to the map option. If you touch the lower left corner where the mileage is at, the unit will give you directions.
